Karlalise Horstmans is a New Zealand based contemporary artist with a background in intellectual property law. She began practicing art full time in 2022. Her love of language and storytelling is apparent in her work. Her abstract works examine the subjective and objective nature of meaning attributed to text-like symbols and marks.
Her representational works often including surrealist, textural or narrative elements. She works across a wide range of scales with (inter alia) oils or acrylics with ink, gels and metallic leaf on canvas / linen. She has been exhibiting since 2017. Her works have sold into private collections in New Zealand, Australia, United States and Netherlands.
