FINALIST #1

Alex Dimercurio

FROM The WELLINGTON Art Show 2026

I’m a Wellington-based artist creating immersive, textural abstract cloud and seascapes. My work explores the emotional resonance of light, movement, and colour to capture the energy of shifting skies and their reflections over water.

Using bold palette knife strokes I sculpt structure from ethereal, formless elements, allowing refracted light, soft hues, and bold texture to coexist in a delicate balance. Each painting is carefully composed to create depth, harmony, and a contemplative visual experience.

At the heart of my practice is an exploration of connection: to nature, to others, and to ourselves. Having lived across continents, I’m drawn to the sky and sea as ever-changing yet constant presences, offering a sense of familiarity and comfort regardless of place. Through my work, I try to honour fleeting moments of beauty and awe, inviting pause, presence, and reflection on the emotional cloudscapes we also carry within.

Shine Through captures a moment of transition, when turbulent weather begins to lift and light returns to the horizon. Layered cloud forms part to reveal a glowing band of sunset, suspended between shadow and light, intensity and calm. The work speaks to moments when uncertainty gives way to clarity, and when nature’s vastness reminds us of both our fragility and our belonging in the world.

GLEN Curtin

FROM The WELLINGTON Art Show 2026

Born in Christchurch and resides in Linwood.
Interests in architecture, contemporary art, mid-century furniture and surfing.

I decided to use spray cans as my medium. The clean fine lines and the evenness of the paint application appealed to me. The birch ply allows a fine surface to paint on but still allowing the grain of the veneer to subtly show through the paint.

My paintings I feel reflect my love of architecture and my love of the designs of the 70s furniture.

Colour, contrast, precision and defined shapes feature in my art. Most of all I want to create an artwork that is unique and deserves a spot on your wall.

FINALIST #4

ANTONIA

FROM The WELLINGTON Art Show 2026

Antonia is a contemporary abstract artist, her work is a vibrant fusion of layers created with acrylic, ink, and pencils. Green Commute 2 blurs the boundary between nature’s instinct and human routine. At first glance, the forms suggest wild flowers.

However, these same shapes begin to resemble a mass of commuters, bodies moving forward in quiet unison toward an implied destination. The work invites a slow shift in perception, where organic freedom and collective momentum occupy the same visual space, challenging the viewer to consider where nature ends and human systems begin.
