Helen Casey
“Being outdoors and fascinated with birds, the sea and marine life, I find my inspiration in the wild and natural world around me.”
I spent my early childhood in the Western Isles of Scotland before coming to New Zealand where I have made my home.
I was a child obsessed with all kinds of creatures from bugs, birds and fish and loved drawing them and dreaming of being a wildlife illustrator and artist.
My intricately detailed art is influenced by my time as a scientific marine illustrator at Te Papa’s Natural History unit, and my own traditional Celtic visual culture.
I am driven to create, putting my heart and soul into making a piece of art that lives and breathes and talks to people: that decorates their lives in a way that makes them happier and, I hope, inspires them.
I am an Elected Artist with the NZ Academy Of Fine Arts and many of my works are held in private collections around the world.
