Leonie Johnsen
I am a contemporary painter inspired by Post-Impressionism, using bold colour, expressive brushwork, and layered compositions to explore my connection with nature. My paintings are filled with rich, immersive greens, transforming gardens and landscapes into emotional, almost surreal spaces.
I hold a Master of Fine Arts with Honours from Elam School of Fine Arts at University of Auckland, majoring in photography. After years in corporate and industrial photography, illness and time living rurally changed my perspective. Painting became a way to express my feelings about nature and its power to heal. My work captures both the wildness of nature and how we shape it.
