The Fiordland crested penguin is one of Aotearoa’s rarest penguins and is critically threatened. In this playful painting, the penguins seem to wink at us whilst the waves thunder in behind them. Their Japanese washi umbrellas hint at how fragile their natural habitat is against such immense forces. And the extra umbrella? Is there a penguin missing? Perhaps it's out surfing!
