Dalene Meiring
Painter
Dalene was born in South Africa and studied Fine Arts at the University of South Africa, Pretoria. She moved with her family to New Zealand in 1997 and still resided in Auckland. My paintings are brought together to portray people, places and domestic objects that are inextricably linked to my current surroundings.
My work is rich in colour, harmonious in form and have intense combinations. It portrays a vitality that creates a balance with silent meditation, yet expresses an individual decisive vision of life. I am passionate about experimentation with texture, colour and different media so I can produce a unique and compelling finish to each piece.
I try to impose a visual and emotional experience in my paintings – to remind me of a place, time or memory, although the exactness of the moment will sometimes continue to evade me. I paint for the love of expression and the passion of life and all the beauty in it. I try to arouse emotions and sensations, often of serenity and tranquillity, that invites you to reflect and contemplate. My abstract oils convey a feeling of controlled atmospheric space and a measured control of depth and perspective.
