FLOX
With her roots firmly stamped within the street art era of the early 2000’s, FLOX’s trademark style derived from the natural world is unquestionably recognisable today.
The artist has always maintained a philosophy of “making art for the people” and making her art accessible which saw FLOX take her own artistic lane by avoiding the traditional artist/gallery relationship. Today, FLOX is one of New Zealand’s most recognised contemporary artists.
Using site specific murals, she gives voice to local narratives and reflects on environmental issues of the area, often in collaboration with community. As awareness of her work has grown globally, FLOX has travelled ever wider, lending her skills to creating works that celebrate native, endangered or rare flora and fauna around the world. Her large scale murals can also be seen in many interior settings, from residential to commercial, as clients see the merit to bringing her decorative artworks from the street to their homes, restaurants, office spaces and hotels.
Her deep connection with land and culture is reflected wherever she picks up her artist tools, whether in the US, Europe, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, or back home in New Zealand.
Sharing is quintessentially FLOX. As she travels, she shares her unique skills through workshops for schools and wider communities. Her goal is to empower and improve the wellbeing of others through creativity.
Although renowned for her iconic murals, her practice extends to an ever expanding range of in-house products while her big brand collaborations with like-minded organisations (BLUNT, Air New Zealand, Bosch, Playstation, TVNZ), demonstrate her ability to adapt within an ever changing world of business, while still maintaining a pure yet highly versatile artistic pathway.
