Iwen Yong

I am a professional artist based in the Wairarapa.

I started my career as an accountant. I have always had an interest in art but did not have the opportunity to pursue art early on. It was a work colleague (after seeing a whiteboard drawing I had done of my dog) who introduced me to oil painting. Since that time I have been progressing my skills mainly through books, DVDs and workshops. Most recently I sought the help of a well established NZ artist who has helped me progress immensely.

In 2021 I decided to take up art full time and I haven’t looked back since.  I would describe my style as painterly realism.  My paintings when viewed up close resembles a collection of brushstrokes that when viewed from a distance creates an image that is realistic.  I enjoy paintings that keeps the viewer guessing as to how It was conceived and these are the paintings I try and create.
