Vinny Thompson

Vinny Thompson started working with clay in 2001. Being predominantly a tile maker, Vinny uses clay and glaze as a medium to explore the Kiwi landscape and people’s connection to the places they grew up in. What was once an attraction to old houses with their sash windows and pretty fretwork has become a need to create art that will get a response from the viewer and prompt them to recount memories and tell their stories of houses, streets, and neighbourhoods that are significant to them.

Vinny was a member of the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts for several years. She exhibited in Solo 23 in 2006, and Solo 29 in 2010, as well as in many general exhibitions at the Academy Galleries. 2018 marked a return to full time art and culminated in a group exhibition in Wellington called “Landscapes We Walk”. Vinny is also a regular exhibitor on the Kapiti Arts Trail. Her work is in public and private collections in many countries around the world.
